CRISTINA CASERO

Cristina Casero teaches Theories and Techniques of Photography and Contemporary Art History at the University of Parma, where she is an associate professor. Since 2022, she has been directing the CSAC, the Center for Studies and Archives of Communication. Her studies initially focused on the experiences of Italian figurative culture in the post-war period and Italian nineteenth-century sculpture, with a particular interest in the connections between visual production and the political, social, and civil issues of that time in Italy. Along this line of interest, her investigations have also delved into the last forty years of the twentieth century, particularly focusing on photographic imagery analyzed in its various aspects. Among her most recent contributions, in 2016, she authored the monograph Paola Mattioli: Lo sguardo critico di una fotografa  (Postmedia Books), and in 2020, Gesti di rivolta: Arte, fotografia e femminismo a Milano 1975 – 1980 (Società per l’Enciclopedia delle Donne). In 2021, she curated the volume Fotografia e femminismo nell’Italia degli anni ’70: indagine critica e testimonianza (Postmedia Books) and published the book Uno sguardo che riflette. Ricerche di fotografia concettuale in Italia tra gli anni Sessanta e Settanta (Meltemi).
