Roberto Polillo was born in Milan in 1946 and lives in Milan and Rome. Son of Arrigo Polillo (1919–1984), the famous historian, critic, and promoter of jazz, Polillo photographed over one hundred concerts in the 1960s, creating a sizeable portrait gallery of the era’s most renowned jazz musicians.
His long career in information technology, both as an entrepreneur and university professor, began in the 1970s. He was a co-founder and CEO of a group of IT and internet companies and a professor at the Universities of Milan and Milan Bicocca. In those years, Polillo had little time for photography and only as an amateur. After leaving his managerial role in 2003, he was able to dedicate much more time to photography. He photographed several street art festivals and manifestations, then shifted his focus to travel photography, exploring new artistic languages to depict the genius loci of distant cities. Polillo’s images have been exhibited in numerous personal shows and art fairs in Italy, France, Switzerland, and the United States.
