The psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung believed that there was a feminine beginning, or female part of the psychic setup, in the subconsciousness of every man. He gave it the name "Anima", which is "soul" in translation from Latin.

The anima is a personification of a man's feminine psychological qualities, such as haziness and vagueness of feelings and moods, emotional sensitivity, prophetic insights, susceptibility to the irrational and the capability for individual love. If a man does not try to relate with his anima, he gets what Jung called "a loss of soul", i.e., a lack of vitality, flexibility and humaneness.
While working on creative projects, George Mayer tends to resort to a kind of meditation. He tries to establish a connection with his anima, which is depicted as a nude female figure. The touch with one’s subconscious mind helps eliminate rigidity, rudeness, and one-sidedness and, eventually, bonds with the Unconscious.

The red circle on the works is a reference to the planet Mars. The ancient Greeks associated this celestial body with the God of war, Ares, who was the personification of pure violence and cruelty. In Western astrology, Mars is associated with the aggressive masculine element, the will and active sexuality. Mars manages wars, disasters, natural disasters, and accidents.
In the artwork, the anima becomes positive. It is opposed to aggression, soothing it and helping to find inner harmony.

All lighting effects are achieved in the photo studio using only lighting equipment. Digital image processing was not utilized.

George Mayer

George è nato a Nizhny Tagil, in Russia, nel 1985. Nel 2004 si è laureato con lode all'Ural College of Arts and Crafts, dove si è specializzato in design ambientale.

Fino al 2007 ha lavorato come designer di interni. Ha partecipato e vinto concorsi nazionali russi di architettura e design. I suoi lavori sono stati pubblicati in libri e periodici professionali per architetti e designer da case editrici come Tatlin e Univer Press.

Dal 2008 partecipa a noti concorsi fotografici internazionali come Photography Masters Cup (USA), The Spider Awards (USA), National Portrait Gallery Awards (Regno Unito), Maestro Photo Contest (Russia). Nel 2011 George Mayer ha vinto il concorso fotografico russo Young Photographers of Russia. I progetti del concorso sono stati esposti a Kazan, Mosca, al festival internazionale d'arte di Marsciano (Italia) e sono stati pubblicati in edizioni professionali. Nel 2011 George è stato il vincitore del concorso fotografico The Spider Awards (USA) dove ha vinto il titolo di Fotografo dell'anno, Outstanding Achievements in Black-and-White Photography.

Nel 2011 George Mayer ha organizzato la sua prima mostra personale presso la galleria FotoliaLAB (Berlino, Germania). Nel 2012 è stato finalista del concorso Young Photographers of Russia, dopo il quale è stato ammesso all'Unione dei fotografi d'arte russi. Nello stesso anno è stato nominato per il premio del concorso fotografico Sony World Photography Awards, la cui mostra si è tenuta alla Somerset House (Londra, Regno Unito).

Nel 2015 ha partecipato al progetto Perfumer organizzato dal centro d'arte Perinnye Ryady di San Pietroburgo (Russia). Con il progetto "Shadows" ha vinto il titolo di Fotografo dell'anno agli International Photography Awards. La cerimonia di premiazione si è svolta alla Carnegie Hall (New York, USA). George è stato nominato per il primo premio dell'IPA e per la statuetta del Lucie Awards.

Nel 2017 George ha vinto uno dei più prestigiosi concorsi fotografici mondiali "Sony World Photography Awards" dove il progetto Light. Ombre. Donna perfetta" si è aggiudicato il primo premio tra i professionisti nella categoria "Ritrattistica". Dopo aver vinto il progetto "Light. Ombre. Donna perfetta" è stato pubblicato in numerose edizioni europee specializzate in fotografia. La società SONY ha concesso una sovvenzione per il progetto "Libido & Mortido", i cui ritratti sono stati esposti alla Somerset House di Londra.

Oltre alla fotografia d'arte, George Mayer si occupa di fotografia commerciale e di moda. Dal 2009 collabora con agenzie di modelle e stilisti di fama internazionale. Grazie a ciò i suoi lavori vengono regolarmente pubblicati su riviste di moda russe e straniere. Tra le aziende che hanno acquistato foto di George Mayer ci sono Adobe, Atlantic Records, Alfa Romeo, Lalique e altre.

Le sue fotografie sono presenti sulle copertine di decine di CD musicali di cantanti stranieri famosi come Chris Brown, "Buller for my Valentine", "Operator". Inoltre, si possono vedere foto di George su libri di noti scrittori e drammaturghi russi e stranieri. Tra questi, il premio Nobel per la letteratura Mario Vargas Llosa e il famoso scrittore francese Bernard Werber. Alcune foto sono state acquistate anche da Netflix per il film "Bright" (2017) con Will Smith e alcune foto sono state acquistate dalla MGM Television per la serie cult-favourite "Fargo".
