Una notte di neve e tempesta, mentre tornava a casa tardi dal lavoro, Eiji Ohashi riuscì a trovare la strada di casa solo grazie alle luci dei distributori automatici. Pensava che stessero brillando per lui.
Per oltre nove anni ha inseguito i distributori automatici in ambienti molto diversi, in tutto il Giappone. Ha capito che erano molto più di semplici macchine: sono il simbolo dell'incessante sforzo dei giapponesi di rendere ogni aspetto della vita il più conveniente possibile. Questa semplice premessa nasconde molteplici linee di indagine sui temi dell'isolamento, del consumismo e della ricerca della felicità in un paesaggio saturo.

One snowy stormy night, as he was walking home late after work, Eiji Ohashi could only find his way home thanks to the lights on vending machines. He thought they were glowing for him.
For over 9 nine years, he has been chasing vending machines in very different surroundings, all over Japan. He understood that they were much more than simple machines: they are very symbolic of the Japanese relentless efforts to make every aspect of life as convenient as possibly be. This simple premise belies multiple lines of inquiry into themes of isolation, consumerism, and the pursuit of happiness within the saturated landscape.
