Le immagini della serie Shikawatari, che sembrano quasi realizzate in grafite, sono state scattate nel paesaggio invernale dell'Hokkaido orientale (Giappone settentrionale). Per diversi anni, Chieko Shiraishi ha seguito un branco di cervi, a volte da lontano, a volte avvicinandosi quando possibile. Come animati da un proprio spazio-tempo, le erbe, le pietre, le nuvole e gli animali selvatici si stagliano e poi scompaiono a loro volta nelle grandi distese di neve, nei laghi ghiacciati e nelle foreste aride.
Queste immagini, in cui la presenza umana è silenziosa, rivelano le peregrinazioni della fotografa e il suo confronto con questo regno in cui si incontrano gli spiriti vivi e mistici. Ci troviamo a turno davanti alle immagini di Shiraishi, guidati dal cervo, trasportati alle porte di questo mondo incantato e sacro.

The images in the Shikawatari series, which almost look as if they were made with graphite, were taken in the winter sceneries of eastern Hokkaido (Northern Japan). Over several years, Chieko Shiraishi followed a herd of deers, sometimes from a distance, sometimes getting closer, when possible.
Seemingly animated by a time-space of their own, the grasses, the stones, the clouds and the wild animals stand out and then vanish in turn in the great snowy fields, the frozen lakes and the arid forests.
These pictures, in which the human presence is silent, reveal the photographer's wanderings and her confrontation with this realm where the living and mystical spirits meet. We find ourselves in front of Shiraishi's images, guided by the deer, transported to the doors of this enchanted and sacred world.
