Che gli alberi siano testimoni muti di quanto avviene sul pianeta, è cosa risaputa, ma mai come oggi riteniamo di poter leggere e studiare il nostro passato attraverso le tracce lasciate fra le pieghe dei loro tronchi. E le principali testimonianze riguardano i fenomeni atmosferici cui hanno assistito e che hanno lasciato il segno.
Fra le piante sotto l’osservazione di studiosi ed esperti, vi sono i Baobab, alberi a cui la fotografa californiana Beth Moon si dedica da oltre vent’anni con scatti di rara sapienza e consapevolezza. In particolare negli ultimi anni è alla ricerca di esemplari millenari situati fra Madagascar, Sudafrica e Botswana per lasciarne testimonianza, vista l’aumentata mortalità dovuta al surriscaldamento globale. Beth Moon, consapevole del prezioso lavoro che compie con il proprio sguardo stampa le sue opere con il metodo del platino palladio, su carta acid free. Prassi che permette una resa pittorica unica, nonostante il monocromo, e una conservazione eterna.

Is a well-known fact that trees are mute witnesses to all that happens on the planet, yet now more than ever we believe we can read and study our past through the traces left in the folds of their trunks. And the main evidences concern the atmospheric phenomena they have witnessed and which have left their mark.
Among the plants under the observation of scientists and experts there are Baobabs, which Californian photographer Beth Moon has dedicated herself to for over twenty years by taking pictures of rare mastery and sensitivity. Particularly in recent years, she has been searching for thousand-year-old specimens in Madagascar, South Africa and Botswana in order to leave a record of them, given their increased mortality due to global warming. Beth Moon, aware of the valuable work she does with her camera, prints her works using the platinum palladium printing process, on acid free paper, which allows a unique pictorial rendering, despite the monochrome, and an eternal preservation.
