Péter Korniss (Cluj-Napoca, 1937), the legendary figure of Hungarian photography, celebrated his 80th birthday in 2017. His unparalleled lifetime’s work was celebrated in the prestigious exhibition of the Hungarian National Gallery. This was the first time that the National Gallery has given a solo exhibition to a living, contemporary Hungarian artist. His lifework is one of the richest photographic œuvres of Hungary. He earned his reputation as a documentary photographer capturing traditional peasant life in Eastern Europe. In 1978, he started focusing on the life of commuter-workers and ‘The Guest Worker’ (1978-1986) can be considered one of the milestones of Hungarian photography.
